AbilityOne Program

Creating Meaningful Work Through Federal Partnerships

Goodwill Industries of Central Alabama is proud to participate in the AbilityOne® Program, creating competitive employment opportunities through federal contracting for people who are blind or have significant disabilities.

What Is the AbilityOne Program?

The AbilityOne® Program is one of the nation’s largest sources of employment for people who are blind or have significant disabilities. Established by Congress through the Javits-Wagner-O’Day Act in 193, the Program creates competitive employment opportunities through federal contracting. The U.S. AbilityOne Commission® oversees the Program, which is administered through AbilityOne authorized enterprises, including SourceAmerica®. Through AbilityOne, nonprofit organizations such as Goodwill provide high-quality products and services to federal customers while creating career opportunities for people with disabilities.

Goodwill’s Impact Through AbilityOne

Through our AbilityOne® contracts, Goodwill Industries of Central Alabama provides essential services to federal customers while creating career opportunities for people with disabilities.

  • Choice and Opportunity
Jobs that build on individual skills, interests, and strengths.
  • Competitive Pay and Benefits
Employment that supports greater independence and stability.
  • Career Growth
Opportunities to build workplace connections, develop skills, and pursue upward mobility.

Program Compliance

Under AbilityOne® requirements, at least 75% of direct labor hours must be performed by employees who are blind or have significant disabilities. Goodwill Industries of Central Alabama maintains this required standard.

Why AbilityOne Matters

Nearly 63% of working-age people with disabilities in the U.S. do not have jobs. AbilityOne® gives adults with disabilities, including veterans, opportunities to support their families, build connections with workplace colleagues, and contribute to their communities.
